The Groom’s Cake is Steeped in Tradition
The tradition started in Victorian England and then popularized in the South during the same time.
What makes a groom’s cake so special is that it gave the groom an opportunity to have his own cake based upon his wishes. It was fun to see the two cakes next to each other: One dedicated to the wedding and one completely for the groom. Traditionally groom’s cakes were a dark fruit cake (not everyone’s favorite) but these days couples often ice the groom’s cake in dark chocolate as a nod to the fruit cake custom.
